Fortunately, after receiving a call, Jane McCain’s mother quickly arrived at the police station to take her daughter back home.

Far away in Kingsley, Purple Summers was anxiously waiting for any news from Jane McCain.

After lunch, Christopher Simonson called Alexander Summers into his study to talk, while Caitlin Carter took Purple to the garden. She mentioned that the yard of their new home was too empty and that growing some flowers could make it lively. If Purple liked any, she could ask the gardener to transplant them directly.

Purple knew that Caitlin was finding something for her to do to occupy her mind. Otherwise, sitting bored in the house, from time to time, she could hear the old madam’s room echoing with curse-filled tirades, as if scolding a pagoda tree.

The old madam must have been doing it on purpose, leaving the door open and yelling curses without any sense of propriety.

This behavior was something Caitlin also found incomprehensible.

When she first married into the Simonson Family, the old madam was just a bit sharp-tongued, essentially a dignified lady. Over the years, however, she somehow became more irritable and eccentric.

Purple could somewhat guess why.

Some people with a strong desire for control, as they grow old and realize they’re losing grip on their surroundings, become hysterical. To win back control or feel their presence, they often act in incomprehensible, even pathological, or extreme ways.

Of course, this was just Purple’s guess. What exactly caused the old madam to become like this was anyone’s guess.

Purple didn’t care much.

The old lady already had high blood pressure and still insisted on losing her temper. Purple didn’t understand what the old lady was really thinking.

She and Caitlin strolled around the garden, and not one of those vibrant flowers caught her fancy. In the end, she had the gardener dig up about a dozen bamboo plants.

She didn’t know if they would survive, but she would try growing them first.

When Alexander came out of the study, he saw a large truck outside, with the gardeners moving bamboo into it.

The bamboo was slender and not too heavy, just very long, so it wouldn’t fit in a normal car.

“Why didn’t you pick some flowers?” Alexander asked Purple.

Purple shook her head, “When they don’t bloom, you worry about when they will, and when they do bloom, you worry about when they’ll fade. It causes unnecessary concern–too much trouble. Bamboos are nice; they look the same all year round, no need to fuss over them.”

Alexander poked her forehead, “Lazy.”

Purple giggled and asked him, “What did my president dad talk to you about? You talked for such a long time.”

“Planning, the future, development, we discussed a lot,” replied Alexander.

“Lies, platitudes, and exaggerations!” Purple also poked his forehead.

The gardeners were moving bamboo by their side, and the two of them played around at the doorway.

Christopher Simonson, watching from a distance, couldn’t help sighing heavily, his face clouded with sadness.

Caitlin, on the other hand, had a face full of contented joy, saying, “Look, how good these two are together. They’re truly a perfect match.”

“A perfect match?” Christopher Simonson frowned. “He runs a casino, is involved in a bunch of illegal activities, and he’s Purple’s brother. It’s just…sigh!”

It was a huge misunderstanding.

All because they assumed Alexander’s surname was Summers and got his identity all wrong! The wedding ended before they figured out the groom’s true identity!

“Maybe it’s a misunderstanding after all, since there’s no evidence he’s committed any crimes,” said the optimistic Caitlin, smiling, “Besides, he’s not her real brother. They grew up together, knowing each other inside and out, their bond is deeper… Ah, now that I think about it, it’s no wonder he looked familiar to me back then; I had seen him at the Summers Family’s place before…”

Christopher Simonson looked at his wife, speechless with exasperation.
