Alexander gently picked her up. Purple Summers, who was not in a deep sleep, immediately woke up. Seeing Alexander’s face, she closed her eyes again, reassured.

“Let’s go to bed,” Alexander said as he bent down to press his forehead against hers, carrying her upstairs to the bedroom.

After tucking Purple Summers in with a light blanket and looking at her child-like sleeping face, Alexander’s heart felt like it was melting.

Alexander placed the coconut in her hand and pinched her face, “Can Doraemon make your belly big?”

“Stop it, don’t ruin my childhood,” Purple Summers swatted his hand away, amused yet annoyed.

Alexander stopped teasing her, wrapping an arm around her as they both leaned back on the bed. With nothing to do, he casually picked up the remote and turned on the TV.

As Purple Summers drank her coconut juice, she asked Alexander, “Who do you think is sending the flowers?”

This was the first time the two of them had spoken frankly about the topic.

Alexander was somewhat surprised and looked at her, “What do you think?”

“I initially thought it was Nathaniel…,” said Purple Summers, watching the advertisements on TV, “but later, it didn’t seem quite right.”

“Why doesn’t it seem right?” Alexander asked.

“Allen Rivera said the murderer’s method was very swift, a cutthroat with great precision,” Purple Summers explained. “Nathaniel isn’t that skilled.”

Alexander said, “Don’t forget, he’s been with Jeremy Jennings; what kind of monsters hasn’t he seen? Maybe he hired a professional assassin.”

The shaky camera captured the body bag on the stretcher, blood-stained tiles, scattered black roses, the onlooking crowd…
