A character witness is someone who can vouch for the defendant’s behavior and character based on past conduct.

In the sentencing phase, such testimony is generally excluded to prevent misleading the jury, but it can be used to refute any statements made by the other party questioning the defendant’s character.

Therefore, a character witness must be very familiar with the defendant and understand them well to be qualified to vouch for their character.

In Purple’s memory, Victoria Morrison had always been harsh on Norton. How could she want to testify for him?
