Chapter 296: Chapter 272: She’s on the Edge of the Cliff_2

He had trapped himself in a cocoon.

He was unwilling to break free.

What he thought was just an insignificant chess piece had, at some point, become the master of his soul?

Rong Zhi lowered his head, unable to stop himself from laughing mockingly.

He thought he could control her, he thought he had imprisoned her, but who could have imagined the true captive was him?

Neither body nor mind was under his control, and terrifyingly, he found it sweet.

Rong Zhi raised his face again, then laughed. Normally, his complex and restrained nature was hard to fathom, his emotions rarely reflected on his face; however, at this moment, he smiled genuinely, perhaps for the first time.

It was a smile of release and acceptance, of definitive surrender, like a magnificent gemstone not found on earth, shining with unparalleled brilliance right before shattering.

Even Feng Ting, accustomed to his face and deeply loathing it, paused when she saw his smile, immediately feeling on guard–was Rong Zhi thinking of a mutual destruction?

Rong Zhi laughed and shook his head, “You need not be so wary, a fair bet has been made, to the victor go the spoils, no matter what means were used, you have won and that is that. I am not a sore loser.”

He turned and called his subordinates closer, spoke several names to have them summoned; these individuals were similar in status to Moxiang, directly under his command, some officially wielding power over military, finance, and personnel, while others owned extensive lands and wealth, not to mention the overseers of hidden spies. All these people, Rong Zhi was now handing over to Feng Ting.

He could have kept some leverage to turn the tables in the future, but Rong Zhi, although often cunning, had never denied the outcome of a loss; lost he had, and he acknowledged it without disdain. He was magnanimous in defeat.

Feng Ting had won, so he would give her everything she wanted; whether his subordinates would fully obey Feng Ting was up to her skills.

The transfer of power was quickly completed; although his subordinates were reluctant, under the rarely severe and compelling command of Rong Zhi, they had no choice but to comply. As soon as the accounts were settled, Rong Zhi turned and, without looking back, walked into another room in the back of the hall where Tian Rujing was waiting for him, asking directly, “What should be done?”

He was unwilling to waste even a moment; every second was critical to Chu Yu’s life and death.

Yet Tian Rujing just stared at him, silent.

Rong Zhi smiled again, “Very well, Chu Yu once said, ‘There’s no such thing as a free lunch in the world,’ but right now, bereft of everything, I have no one to ask but you.” He lightly lifted the hem of his robe, lowered his body, and knelt before Tian Rujing.

Tian Rujing stepped back in shock, as if struck by lightning, his body shaking uncontrollably.

Years ago, Chu Yu had done the same, kneeling before him to save Rong Zhi. And now, Rong Zhi, to save Chu Yu, made the same gesture.

At that moment, he truly felt the bone-deep despair.

Their hearts perfectly aligned, though separated by distance, each was willing to kneel for the other. Between these two, there wasn’t the slightest gap for another to intervene, as if they formed a perfect circle.

Tian Rujing struggled to speak, “I have a method that can instantly transport you over a distance of two thousand miles to Luoyang.” He took a breath, and his tone became slightly smoother. Raising his wrist, he let Rong Zhi see the bracelet, “Although I am the master of this bracelet, with my permission, you can temporarily utilize one of its Divine Skills. Through this skill, you can rush to Luoyang in time to save Chu Yu.”

His cryptic words translated to: he could grant partial access to the bracelet’s functions, allowing Rong Zhi to instantaneously reach Luoyang via spatial transfer.

Rong Zhi let out a slight sigh of relief, stood up, and with a calm smile said, “If that is the case, then let’s proceed.” Before he could finish, another voice from behind interrupted their actions, “Rong Zhi, be wary of deceit.”

The speaker was Guan Canghai, who had come to the doorway concerned for Rong Zhi while he was speaking with Tian Rujing. Although Tian Rujing’s words did not show any apparent threat, Guan Canghai keenly sensed that there was still some unknown harm directed towards Rong Zhi.

Exposed by Guan Canghai, a slight unease surfaced on Tian Rujing’s face. He instinctively looked at Rong Zhi, only to see him still smiling serenely, as if he had already understood all the truth.

A great shock ran through Tian Rujing’s heart: No, he truly had realized all the truth.

He knew that he was going to harm him.

Tian Rujing and Feng Ting’s plan was as follows: first, force Rong Zhi to relinquish power, then under the guise of rescuing Chu Yu, persuade Rong Zhi to voluntarily use the space-jumping function of the bracelet. This function was extremely risky to use; one must first recuperate for a period to bring their physical condition to its peak before starting. During use, one needs to buffer at the original location for over three hours, allowing the body to slowly adapt from a normal environment to a space-distorted atmosphere before activating the space fold.

Ever since an unlucky mismedication years ago, Rong Zhi had harbored a latent threat within his body. For Rong Zhi in his current physical state, proceeding with a space transfer immediately would trigger the dormant threat within his body in the worst possible manner, shattering his health and crushing his life.

Tian Rujing had carefully calculated that after saving Chu Yu, Rong Zhi would not live more than three days.

He thought Rong Zhi was unaware of these facts, yet he hadn’t anticipated that years of living with Chu Yu had nearly equaled Rong Zhi’s knowledge about related subjects. Though Chu Yu was not extensively versed in the physics of space, through descriptions in some science fiction novels, Rong Zhi could gauge the peril involved.

He had long known that neither Feng Ting nor Tian Rujing would easily grant his wishes. Yet, even knowing that a profound abyss lay ahead, he was still determined to cross it, for Chu Yu was at the edge of the cliff.

Panting, this chapter is extended to three thousand words…

A tragedy occurred today, a very tragic disaster. My Firefox bookmarks, somehow, all the stored addresses are gone…

Several hundred addresses… each time I remember, I feel my heart bleeding. There were many novels I hadn’t had the chance to read, many important resource websites, and some very important things… and so on. I feel like I’m almost dead…

After busying myself for a few hours… I despaired, despairing at the addresses that could never be retrieved again… continuing to recall what else might be recoverable…

In despair, I must continue advertising; Tian Yi has started a new book, recently needing to boost the new book rankings. If you have recommendation tickets, please support the new book temporally–bowing down!!

While at it, I’m also asking for monthly tickets~~~
