Chapter 716: Chapter 489: Counter-Interrogation Master Mu Fan

“Ladies and gentlemen, lead the way,” Mu Fan said indifferently,

breaking the awkward silence that filled the room.

All soldiers looked simultaneously at Li Cheng and Rong Wei.

At this moment, Rong Wei’s hatred was not solely directed at Mu Fan, but also included the anger of being played by the Intelligence Department.

From the beginning to the end, she only knew that the person they were dealing with was the perpetrator who had injured her brother. However, she did not know much about other information; since the Special Service Department, which primarily focuses on interrogations, almost entirely depended on the Intelligence Department for its initial information.

“Follow us closely, if you take a wrong turn down here you’ll be shot on sight,” finally, Li Cheng spoke up.

Rong Wei’s current state of mind was not suitable for her to speak again.

After hearing his words, Rong Wei also finally fell silent.

Two soldiers, each holding a set of Magnetic Energy Cuffs, exhaled a sigh of relief and went back to put the cuffs away.

Mu Fan, with his unperturbed demeanor, followed them without giving the surrounding people’s stares a second thought.

Unknown to him, in the eyes of those around him, he was now equated with an extremely dangerous criminal.

The deeper underground corridor did not become narrower but rather widened more and more.

Until Mu Fan saw a group of buildings that could almost be described as an underground base.

After a few more steps, the procession appeared in front of a building that looked heavy and low-rise.

Rong Wei’s expression fluctuated as she stepped toward the door on the left labeled “Interrogation Room.”

They had finally arrived here, but there was not even a hint of pleasure in Rong Wei’s psyche, as she forcefully suppressed the disgust in her eyes and turned to look at Mu Fan, “This is a standard investigative procedure. Please come in. Don’t worry, there will be no force involved.”

The room’s door was a thick iron gate, which, with the aid of hidden motors, opened with a thunderous roar to the side, revealing a passageway for entry.

The surrounding soldiers merely stood on either side and did not make any further moves to aim their guns at him.

Mu Fan glanced at the expressionless Rong Wei before stepping in.

Behind him, the iron door closed heavily, and bright lights turned on in the pitch-black room, causing Mu Fan’s pupils to instinctively constrict.

It was a very spacious room with nothing inside but a steel chair and a bulletproof glass window embedded in the concrete, nothing more.

The bulletproof glass also had small communication holes, ensuring that voices could be transmitted clearly.

Mu Fan could see that the steel chair had several interfaces for locking devices, but since he was not wearing Magnetic Energy Cuffs, he walked over and sat down without concern.

Then he saw Rong Wei and Li Cheng coming from the other side of the thick bulletproof glass.

The two Lieutenant Colonels sat down, and Li Cheng, glancing at Mu Fan, smiled and said, “Don’t worry too much or be nervous. We just have a few standard questions to ask. We hope that Reserve Officer Mu Fan will answer our questions truthfully.”

“Okay, ask your questions quickly. I’m in a hurry.”

Mu Fan’s unaffected calm put Li Cheng on a brief wave of doubt. As an experienced interrogator, he had seen too many people, and the one before him now was the kind most difficult to crack in an interrogation.

Because from the start to finish, whether it was seeing the armed soldiers of the Special Service Department or the sinister and terrifying block of buildings, Mu Fan showed no hint of being perturbed.

This kind of person was either thick-skinned or his character was genuinely resolute to a certain degree.

Li Cheng could be one hundred percent certain that Mu Fan was the latter.

This kind of person… was troublesome to deal with.

And ever since Rong Wei entered this room, her whole demeanor seemed like it had transformed into someone else.

Now that she was here, she was absolutely not going to let Mu Fan leave here so easily!

Separated by the thick bulletproof glass, she finally felt a sense of security.

This glass could withstand the assault of a small-caliber rocket!

“The interrogation procedure now begins; this is the Special Service Department, and we have the authorization from headquarters, so Reserve Officer Mu Fan, I hope you will truthfully confess everything you’ve done. To verify the accuracy of your answers, we will directly monitor various physiological indicators of your body.”

After a soft cough, Li Cheng spoke, and the heavy iron door opened once again as two technicians pushing a large piece of equipment entered.

“Reserve Officer, if the machine detects that you are lying about certain matters, your punishment will be doubled. This device will accurately detect your blood flow velocity, your heart rate, your breathing frequency, the tension of your muscles… it will know you better than you know yourself,” Rong Wei said, her face revealing an indescribable satisfaction.

They had finally reached this point, and every action now was officially by the book.

She didn’t believe this kid could be clean; just one tiny issue was all it would take to keep him here.

How dare he fire a gun in front of her? Old grudges and new, she was going to settle them all–the wretched boy wouldn’t go unpunished.

As Mu Fan listened to the words coming through the thick glass, his lowered eyelids hid a mocking gaze.

But he answered softly, “Okay, let’s get on with it.”

Mu Fan sat there like a statue.

Two technical experts carefully approached Mu Fan after hearing the instructions, and in a short time, more than fifteen types of human body sensors covered Mu Fan’s entire body. The dense mass of cables at his feet looked to be no fewer than fifty.

Rong Wei and her colleague looked down at the data appearing on the screen in front of them and exchanged a satisfied nod after making eye contact.

The equipment was working normally.

The two experts exited, and the thick iron door closed with a heavy thud.

“The interrogation begins,” said a voice devoid of emotion, as the lights dimmed, instantly tightening the atmosphere.

Mu Fan’s eyelids were still lowered, and a cool breath enveloped his body from the heart at that moment.

Dark Breath… Absolute Calm state!

When he lifted his head, he had returned to that indifferent and peaceful state, which was the very posture Rong Wei hated the most.

“Do you know Donatello?” Rong Wei suddenly asked the first question, her gaze fixed on the lie detector.

“I do,” Mu Fan replied calmly.

All the indices showed no fluctuation, but Rong Wei was not disappointed.

“You and Donatello have a deep grudge, right?” Rong Wei’s voice now was like that of a cold robot, undoubtedly creating more tension in this dark environment.

“Deep? Is ‘to the death’ considered deep?” Mu Fan raised his eyebrows.

Hearing this, Rong Wei’s heart leaped with joy. This kid was actually walking into the trap on his own, saving her a lot of effort.

“Of course, it’s deep. Then why… did you kill him!” Rong Wei suddenly raised her voice in the last half of the sentence, looking intently at Mu Fan, hoping to catch a flaw in his expression.

“Oh? Did he die?” Mu Fan showed an appropriately surprised look on his face.

As Mu Fan spoke, other indices on the equipment did not change, but his heartbeat sped up slightly.

Rong Wei’s eyes lit up, her voice deliberately slowed: “Don’t try to divert the topic. We have already gathered relevant evidence. Your heart is in turmoil…”

However, Mu Fan merely raised his eyebrows slightly, revealing a joyous yet slightly regretful expression in his eyes.

“Dead? That’s wonderful.”

His voice was filled with lightness and delight, after which Mu Fan flashed a radiant smile at the two people behind the bulletproof glass.

“I’m quite pleased about it.”

The equipment data, aside from the heartbeat, showed no other excited response, and Mu Fan’s watertight reply brought Rong Wei’s psychological pressure tactics to a standstill.

Both realized that this kid’s mental resilience was probably unexpectedly strong.

Li Cheng’s fingers tapped lightly on the desk, signaling it was his turn, and he picked up the intercom: “Mu Fan, yesterday at Villa No.1, you had a direct conflict with Donatello. Who were those soldiers that left with you afterward?”

Mu Fan tilted his head, looking at Li Cheng, shook his head with a withdrawn smile: “You don’t have the clearance. I would also advise you not to inquire.”

“What did you do after that?”

…

“We suspect that during the time you disappeared, you carried out the plan to assassinate Donatello, so we need you to make a statement to prove your innocence.”

“I don’t even know how he died. What statement do you expect me to make?”

…

“Why did you not leave a single survivor in the apartment massacre a few days ago?”

“I have no idea what you’re talking about. As you know, I was seriously injured after participating in the mecha combat tournament and have been recuperating within the academy ever since.”

…

“Where are the person and object evidence to support you were at the academy?”

“As for the person evidence, I really don’t know, but for the object evidence… just investigate all the surveillance, I believe the videos will explain everything.”

“Oh, and to add one last thing, I believe in science.”

…

Time continued to pass, and when they asked why Mu Fan suddenly returned to Dingchuan Academy that morning, Mu Fan responded with a smile:

“Because I love studying. I like swimming in the ocean of knowledge. I felt I had been outside for too long and should come back to study.”

Unable to restrain her rising anger, Rong Wei finally slammed her hand on the table and stood up furiously, losing her composure completely.
